My Impression Of California Coastline
Artist
Bob and Nadine Johnston
Medium
Painting - Enhanced In Lightroom And Photoshop - Nikon Photography - Gift Or Note Cards, Are Cheaper By The Dozen
Description
My Impression of California Coastline, from many trips up and down the coast. This is not any specific area, except perhaps the type of landscape found from North of Santa Barbara to Big Sur area of the coast, where the cliffs are not as rock bound as those found in the Big Sur area.
There are many viewpoints, like Laguna, which show buildings etc. But, the majority of the coast is free from them in many areas.
Wildflowers cover the hillsides and cliffs. Wanted to shot the rugged areas, which slope down towards the Pacific Ocean, but are tranquil or peaceful in nature, free from the crowds and include views of the waves crashing on the shore against the cliffs. This causes a lot of white water, as the return of the waves mixes with the incoming waves, competing with them for space. In many areas the state and local land owners have sunk posts into the ground, to help prevent erosion of the cliffs or loss of their land and many of them are about 10-30 feet long.

Bob, Just paid a surprise visit to Nadine and your wonderful gallery and visited 30 of your fantastic pieces. I have fav and voted on all 30 of them. But this painting was really my favorite even though all of them could have been. I loved the fantastic detail work put into the foreground imagery along with how this painting has such great depth and it pulls you in and takes you down the hill as you are looking out over the ocean. Exceptional details in the water, with the waves rolling in and the white caps rolling on top. Fantastic painting, fav, voted and google promoted

Imagine this at the lowest edge, with a 40-50 foot drop to the rocks and water below...

Much of the coast is like this -- and difficult to get to the water.
Bob and Nadine Johnston replied:
Yeah, Id hate to try to go down to the water in this painting. Fell about 70 ft in Korea in just such unstable ground. Though some climb the dirt cliffs in CA and make it, there are too many falls, with injuries and rescues by helicopter.

The stark hillside and then the raging surf make this a high energy image. v
