Description
Artwork created for an art show commemorating the migration of crows to Mansfield, Ohio's downtown. My watercolor features a plague doctor, or a physician who treated victims of bubonic plague during epidemics. The physicians were hired by cities to treat infected patients regardless of income. The crow-like beak was designed to hold herbs or spices to help disguise unpleasant odors and it was believed that the mask protected them from being infected by deadly diseases. The name Mephitis, means noxious or foul smelling gas or vapor.
