That is not a picture of a lake.... it is the top of the smoky mountain morning fog, and those are not islands, but the mountaintop ridges breaking above the early morning fog. And the rain clouds are spilling some early rain in the distance. I came upon this wonderful scene a week ago, as I was driving through the western Virginia smokeys early one morning on my way back north from florida. I had an early breakfast at the hotel and hit the road before 6am not really knowing what to expect because I was following my GPS through the winding narrow mountain roads in the dense morning fog. As I climbed up the mountain ridges to the top and broke out of the clouds this was the enchanting scene I found. I had to snap a picture and then get my paints upon returning home. I will never forget this unexpected sunrise mountain scene, and I hope you like it too.
