Description
While my wife and I were walking the path down to the water at South Tufa at Mono Lake (Mono County, California, USA) we noticed that there was a prodigious quantity of “horse apples” on the path. At about the time we were noticing that, a pair of wonderful older ladies was happy to tell us that there had been horses in the area, clarifying that they were wild horses, “from Nevada.” This gave me a chuckle since I’ve seen them with some frequency growing up Lassen County California since high school. We stopped back by the next morning and found this little group along the shore, apparently unimpressed with the beautiful tufa formation behind them and more interested in getting some sun on their faces as the ambient air temperature was still 18F.
I didn’t get close enough to see their license plates so I can’t be certain if these were Nevada wild horses or just the regular California variety but it was neat to see them in that setting.

Very nice photo. I've never seen the mustangs around Lee Vining or Mono areas. Heard about them. Maybe some day LF
Mike Lee replied:
Thank you, Gary! There was fairly large herd in the area both days we were there on this trip.
