Lotus flowers are aquatic perennials that close at night and go below murky waters, only to rise in the early morning with clean leaves and beautiful blooms.

I photographed this lotus at Kennilworth Aquatic Garden in Washington D.C. I have manipulated the image to create an early morning haze and soft obscure appearance as this one lotus bloom peaks out from surrounding lotus leaves.
