Description
I created LOST TIME in my garage. A few years back I received this sun dial watch for Christmas and wanted to shoot the watch in the foreground in focus and pyramids, sphinx and the sun out of focus in the background. I started by making the pyramids and sphinx out of quick dry putty and painted when dry. Using a heavy-duty 4 by 4 foot table I spread out 100 pounds of fine grain sand. Behind the back edge of the table I set up a duratran (basically a very large transparency) of a sky scene. I set up my trusty old C-400 Calumet 4x5 camera on a Majestic tripod using a Rodenstock 150mm lens tilting the front standard back to throw the back ground out of focus. Once the table was on camera I set each item into the shot. Moving them and the sand around until I was happy with the composition. I used a soft box (24 x 36 inch) overhead, a head with a medium reflector close to the duratran to simulate the sun and a small reflector over the back of the duratran for direction.

Been meaning to stop by for a while. Love your juxtapositions. This one is really great - I love the expansive landscape idea, the claustrophobic feel, and the way the watch works in with the rest.
