Title
La Lampareria Albacin Granada
Artist
Richard Harpum
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Board
Description
My wife and I are regular visitors to Andalucia in southern Spain and we often visit Grenada. In 2011 we visited the Albacin a medieval Moorish district of the city that rises on a hill offering spectactular views of the Alhambra Palace.
As we were exploring the narrow, winding streets we came across a small lamp shop with a fantastic display of coloured lanterns. I immediately knew that I had to paint it. This proved to be easier said than done but I think I have pulled it off. Although this painting took a while to paint, I suspect this was less time than it takes to make one of these beautiful lanterns.
As the shop reminded me of Aladdin's cave I added a suitable lamp on the table outside the shop.

Richard - I love this painting, so different from your landscapes (which I love too). This one is so colorful and it makes me want to enter the shop.
Richard Harpum replied:
Mary, Thanks. I had a lot of fun painting this and as usual, learned a lot. I'm glad you like it. Yes, it is a departure from my norm, but it's good to do this sometimes, just like you did with "Clear Blue Sky". I'm interested to learn if people prefer this version (the original) to the digitally modified version, showing the shop at night.
