Description
As you enter the Japanese Garden at Hermann Park in Houston, Texas you walk directly into the “Welcoming Lantern” or ishi-doro. This Welcoming Lantern was a gift from the city of Chiba, Japan to the City of Houston. The five piece lantern was carved from solid granite and the aperture of the lantern focuses the spirit of the garden.
When standing on the other side of the pond, this lantern is much like a lighthouse providing direction for all who come to enjoy the Japanese Garden.
