Here is MY Virginia, the Blue Ridge Parkway on the bridge crossing over from Lynchburg Virginia to Amherst County, over the James River. Stunning mountains off in the distance help to frame the autumn colors, close to peak autumn leaf season reflected back to the river at sunset. This view is up river from Lynchburg, VA..
The headwaters of the James River today are at the confluence of the Cowpasture and Jackson rivers, near Clifton Forge. The James River used to be a main shipping avenue for the transport of tabacco from this area, all the way down the James River basin to Lynchburg, then down to Richmond, Williamsburg and then to the Chesapeake Bay area. Flat bottom boats were used for the transport.
