Description
For the past several months I have been helping a neighbor take care of a prematurely born baby sheep. He was the littlest of triplets, born to a very young mother who had no idea how to take care of him. We had to take him from his mother and bottle feed him and he went through several life-threatening illnesses, but is now healthy and happy and the sweetest of creatures. When we re-integrated him with the herd after 2+ months, when I would go to bottle-feed him several times a day, one of my neighbors female cows, Jude, was utterly fasicinated by him. Jude would come right up to the outside of the enclosure he was in and stare at him constantly. One day, when he was big enough to go outside, I let him out and he went right up to her and she to him. I was very nervous at first as she was a giant next to his tiny body. Jude raised her head and put her nose to his nose and I could see there was an instant connection - he telling her and her telling him, I like you, doesn't matter we are so different.
This encounter brought tears to my eyes, truthfully. I thought to myself - here are two creatures so very different in evey way and they not only respect each other, but want to intereract. Why can't all humans behave this way? I hope one day we can.
