Celebrating Kamehameha I Day ...
Every June 11th, we remember Kamehameha the Great (born 1758, died May 1819), the Hawaiian monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawaiʻi —comprising the Hawaiian Islands of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and Hawaiʻi.
This is a posthumous portrait of Kamehameha I - an original Hawaii CDV (Carte De Visite) by 19th century Hawaiian ambrotypist and photographer H.L. Chase, who had a store/studio downtown Honolulu from 1862 to 1888.
