The statue of Hans Christian Andersen stands on the street named after him -- H.C. Anderson Boulevard, which is one of Copenhagen's widest and busiest boulevards.
Behind the Andersen statue is the Copenhagen City Hall and City Hall Square. Andersen spent many years in Copenhagen.
Andersen was a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels and poems, but he most remembered for his fairy tales, which have been translated into more than 125 languages. His most famous tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid," "The Nightingale," "The Snow Queen," "The Ugly Duckling," "The Little Match Girl," and "Thumbelina."
