Description
A view of the largest free-flying flag in the world - the GW Bridge American Flag suspended from the west (New Jersey) tower of the bridge blowing in the wind to celebrate Veterans Day on Nov 11. This American Flag, the largest free-flying flag in the world, measures 90 feet long and 60 feet wide and weighs 450 pounds. Weather permitting, the flag is flown from the George Washington Bridge tower on national holidays such as Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Matrin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans Day. The tradition of hanging the flag began in 1947 on Veteran's Day in honor of WWII troops. The GW Bridge American Flag stripes are approximately 5 feet wide and the stars about four feet in diameter.
