Guardian statue called the Bedogol in Balinese. Many buddhist, hindus and jain temples have these guardian statues that are usually placed on both sides of a gate. In Bali, the statues were placed found only in Pura (temples) or Puri (Royal homes). But, now they can are found in many homes. Balinese people choose variety of characters, ranging from ordinary to mythical. It is balinese belief that by having a complementary statues representing duality, two opposing forces (good and bad, positive and negative) balances and makes them neutral. So as you walk through the gate, you walk into a stable, peaceful place.
