Description
Painting of Realistic Spring colors down in the Grand Canyon. The majority of visitors to the canyon, see distorted colors as they view it from the rim. Except for late September - October, there is a lot of haze in the canyon. The haze creates a very blue cast overall. Plus the distance of a mile down into the canyon increases the blue cast. To get truer colors in a Photograph, it is necessary to use Haze or UV filters and few cameras today have them. Personally add a polarizing filter in addition.
Many artists painting the Grand Canyon also paint from photographs or what they see through the haze. Was fortunate that we began going to the Grand Canyon back in 1970 when we could hike down into the canyon. Though am no longer able to do so, have many memories of the brilliant colors in spring or after any rain during the year.
There are many viewpoints from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on the Arizona side or south rim this one from Yaki Point is one of my favorites.... Some of our favorites viewpoints are reached from the South entrance, others on the west side in the Navajo Reservation. Our favorite view points are, from anywhere along Hermit Road to Hermit Rest, like pima, mariopa, hopi, or views from various areas and Yaki which can only be accessed by bus. But, many never see some of our favorite places, the buses running the routes in the Grand Canyon only go as far as Yaki Point. We like a lot of the viewpoints past there, especially Grandview, Moran, Lapin and Navajo or even many unnamed view points.
A year of weekly or two week visits, scarcely suffices to see it all. There is an infinite variety... No part is ever duplicated. Its colors are many and complex, They change with the ascending and declining sun. Sunrise is dramatically different than Sunsets. Lights and shadows appear and vanish with the passing clouds or changing seasons mark their passage in changing colors. Even the humidity or amount of rainfall will change the colors from day to day, as the reds are redder when wet.
Less crowded locations, with fantastic views are Guano, Lapin, Moron, Navajo, and Desert View. Most all of the viewpoints have views of the Colorado river, but some of the best have no view of the river or very restricted one. Maps of the park show some of the areas that you would like other than Mather and Yavapai. Peaks that are prominent such as Isis Temple, Thor, Zoroaster, and views of the Abyss. There are also many trail heads along the south rim where you can walk down a ways (take plenty of water) or even all the way to the river.

Bob, I've just realized it's a painting, not a photo, it's so realistic I thought it must surely be a photo! Absolutely brilliant paintwork!
