JERUSALEM, ISRAEL :: Pictured is a close-up of the side of the hill many scholars believe to be Golgotha a.k.a. Calvary, where Jesus was crucified.

This is located near the empty Garden Tomb where Yeshua Jesus gloriously resurrected, outside the current Old City walls of Jerusalem, a short distance from the Damascus Gate.

"Good Friday" in the title refers to the day Jesus was crucified ~ two days before His glorious Resurrection.

The word "Good" is significant because not only does it refer to its holiness through the atoning death of the Son of God for our sins ~ but also because of the fact that God made a way for us to be free of the eternal penalty of sin when we trust in Jesus as our Savior. That's GOOD news!

Golgotha is based on the Hebrew word for skull, "gulgoleth", and is mentioned in Matthew 27:33, Mark 15:22, and in John 19:17::

"And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha." (KJV).

The hillside pictured indeed bears a striking resemblance.

I took this photo in November 2009 during a Holy Land Pilgrimage with my parents when they celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

When you visit Israel, you will truly experience the Bible coming alive. The places you read about are there in living color. Life-changing indeed.

Isaiah prophesied the Messiah Yeshua Jesus would come as the Suffering Servant, oppressed and afflicted, led like a lamb to the slaughter, though He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth (Isaiah 53:1-12).

This was fulfilled with immaculate accuracy nearly 700 years later as recorded in Matthew 27:11-66; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 23:1-56; and John 18:28-19:42.

According to Mosaic Law, an animal without blemish was sacrificed as atonement for the sins of the people.

Yeshua Jesus fulfilled the Law and became THE Supreme Sacrificial Lamb for the absolute entirety of humanity, once and for all.

This is explained in Hebrews chapter 9, verse 12::
“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (KJV)

Indeed, Jesus paid for my debt of sin that He did not owe ~ so that I could be freed from a debt I could not pay.

My precious Savior offers this to every person who believes in Him and receives the gift of eternal life through Yeshua Jesus.

“For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus ~ so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

As an artist, my personal and professional preference is to avoid posting any art with “dark” themes that could be construed as spooky or disturbing, as I feel there is already too much negativity in the world. However, I felt this photo powerfully illustrates God’s ultimate love for each of us by sacrificing His One and Only Son, Yeshua Jesus, for the remission and payment of sin for all of humanity, for all time.

Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem" [ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
