Glacier Receding. Glacier Bay Seascape

Description
Color version of a receding glacier in Glacier Bay, Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska, USA. This glacier, which does not come to the waterline, twists and turns its way through snow-capped peaks beneath a cloudless blue sky as it makes its way toward Glacier Bay.
The rocky mountain in the right foreground is Gloomy Knob, a large rocky formation on the east side of Glacier Bay where the glaciers are receding. On the opposite side of the bay they are advancing. In the chilly waters of the bay you will see particles of ice from nearby glaciers that have calved, or thrown off ice in the process of advancing. Those directly across the bay are causing this ice to drift here. Receding and advancing glaciers are in close proximity—sometimes right next to each other, so this scene cannot be construed as evidence of global warming. What we were told on our tour is this: Whether glaciers are advancing or receding depends entirely on what mountain range they are part of.
This image also is available in black-and-white. You will find it in this gallery, along with other versions of Gloomy Knob—not a small rock formation but one that a small cruise ship such as ours can get quite close to. I do recommend a small cruise ship for Glacier Bay. They can get much closer to the beautiful terrain, and one can spot wildlife more easily from a small ship. We were on a 500-passenger ship, and it was well-appointed with plenty of room to maneuver in this are. One can take an even small boat, more of an excursion vehicle. Those are the sizes I would recommend.

Doug Norkum, huge thanks for featuring my "Glacier Receding. Glacier Bay Seascape" in Nikon Full Frame Cameras. I do hope everyone reads the description and comes away knowing that "receding" applies to glaciers on one side of Glacier Bay and not to those on the opposite side. Receding and advancing glaciers are in close proximity--somethings right next to each other.
