Description
There’s so much color in the world.
Quite fortunately, because Mother Nature does not subscribe to the dictates of the corporate design industry, she does not limit her landscape palette to fashionable neutrals – the greys and beiges, whites and creams that homeowners are told are THE in colors to aspire to: grey this year, beige five years from now, blinding white five years ago.
Out in the real world, there is emerald green grass, glowing in golden sunshine. A sparkling stream glistens blue, reflecting the sky above. Bushes, especially in the autumn but not limited to that season, are vibrant shades of orange, rust, red, and coral.
And not to be outdone by the design industry, Mother Nature uses grey here and there – in the rocks along the stream. Although even there she refuses to be limited, choosing, in certain landscapes, to infuse red into her rocks and hillsides.
In short, she is not boring or predictable, and while she does change her palette with the seasons, she does so free of charge to the viewer.
Gilded Hillsides, the artwork, invites the viewer to step into a magical world of color and texture. It is a warm day in the country, and that blue stream invites us closer so that we can dabble our fingers, or our bare toes, in the cool, clear, clean water.
It is quiet here – the only “noise” is the visual stimulation of all the color, and our eyes move gently from stream to banks, from grassy slopes to the bushes and trees, from the side of the hill on upward to the higher hills in the distance.
This is a place where one can sit with a book, a sandwich, and our thoughts. This is a place to simply just be.
(Gilded Hillside is located in Eastern Washington country – up in the hills, away from the farms and agriculture, and down in a draw from the road. Like many beautiful places, it is easily passed by and overlooked, and you have to be willing to slow down to find it.)
Gilded Hillside is featured in 23 Fine Art America groups.
