Description
This is tree is part of my Ghost Trees series taken in Purgatory Creek Nature Area.
Mountain cedar, commonly called ashe juniper is the dominant juniper of the Texas Hill Country. In late winter cedar pollen is the culprit for a lot of people's allergies. This is a native plant but has become a problem due to overgrazing so many ranchers are cutting and burning them. The rare golden-cheeked warbler and other birds utilize these trees for breeding, cover and food. They also provide cover and shelter to many types of Texas Hill Country wildlife.
