Some things are really good for the soul. Yesterday I got a return canvas print from a client.
I felt a little sad because the mistake on the canvas print was not mine but the client’s. He agreed for sure. He however reminded me he was an old customer and I shouldn’t charge him extra for the new print. I agreed with him.
I thought that this was wasted canvas since you can’t sell a personal photo to other people. I looked at it for some time and was about to cut it to pieces so as to safe at least the wood for another print. Then I thought, what if I just paint it over with thick oil paint and see what it will look like? I never imagines you could paint over a canvas print. I thought the underlying ink would go crazy on me. I was mistaken.
The result was these five boats out in a calm sea. This result was really interesting. I now realize I never have to waste any canvas no matter the mistake on the print. I am glad I tried it out.
These boats were in an archived file in my head of some boats I had seen last year at the Kenyan coast. I executed it with a pallet Knife and thick oil paints.
