Description
The novel "Death Wish" was written by Tucson resident Brian Garfield. A key scene in the film is when architect Charles Bronson (1921-2003) visits Old Tucson and sees the staged shoot outs. He is gifted with a gun by a client and uses it as an avenging angel to rid New York City of undesirables.
"Death Wish" (1974) was the first screen appearance of Jeff Goldblum who was unbilled as a mugger. He studied at Sanford Meisner's Neighborhood Playhouse and made his professional debut, again playing a bit role in a Joseph Papp production of Shakespeare in the Park.
Charles Bronson was one of 15 children, the only one to finish high school. He enrolled in the Pasadena Playhouse in 1949, debuting in film two years later. He was billed as Buchinsky until 1954.
"Death Wish" finally made Bronson an international star. It spawned four sequels, the final two real duds. After the release of "Death Wish Five," the normally close mouthed Charlie announced that they had gone to the well too often.
