Description
These faded blue doors on a street in wonderfully preserved medieval town of Erice Sicily could conjure up some great images in your mind. Study some of the details and make up your own stories! The stone and brick exterior keep the interior cool so you can imagine someone sitting on the stoop with their face turned upward to warm up on a winter day. You might also imagine an Italian grandmother opening the shutters and leaning on the doorframe edge to keep an eye on who is doing what out in the street. Alternatively, the shutters could be closed to keep out the midday heat of the summer or to keep out the ‘bad night air’ believed to cause disease. Today, the faded and bleached blue paint suggested an uninhabited building. Yet, who’s to know what is behind those doors?
