The Empire State Building is an art deco skyscraper in New York City, located in the Midtown district of Manhattan, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It became one of the major symbols of the city, with its 443 meters high at 61 m s.l.m., it was the tallest skyscraper in the world between 1931 and 1967, until it was overtaken by the Twin Towers World Trade Center. It reassumed the city record after the attacks of 11 September 2001, and returned to second place in 2014, with the inauguration of the One World Trade Center. Since 1981 he has been a member of the National Historic Landmark Program as a national monument.
In 2000, the American Society of Civil Engineers proposed it as one of the seven wonders of the modern world and in 2007 obtained the first place in the ranking of the most beloved buildings written by the American Institute of Architects.
Every year it is a tourist destination for over three million visitors who crowd the eighty-sixth floor panoramic terrace.
