Description
Eternity......Eternity....Its chimes and echo shook me enough to make me sketch a picture awhile ago in April 2019....I had a few other sketches unfinished......but the echoes of Eternity by the grace of God I can still hear and compel me to complete. May I ask do you hear the sound of Eternity too? Arthur Stace heard the echoes of Eternity...When at a church in the thirties he heard Rev John G Ridley shout “I wish I could shout eternity through the streets of Sydney. Eternity, Eternity, Eternity!.” Stace was so powerfully effected by the words, he felt a great call from the Lord to go and write the word Eternity throughout his city. He had a piece of chalk in his pocket and began writing on the pavement. He said he could hardly spell his own name and yet was amazed, when he wrote "Eternity" and it came out in beautiful copperplate script. And so began the remarkable story of the man called "Mr Eternity." for most of the 35 years he would get up in the night before dawn and spend time in prayer before going out on his mission to write "Eternity", For most of the time he was anonymous until he was discovered. Its been many years since those faithful servants of the Lord - Rev John G Ridley and Arthur Stace passed away....but who would have thought the city of Sydney, Australia when they celebrated the New Millenium in 2000.....High up on Sydney Harbour Bridge in lights for all the whole world to see - billions of people all over the world would have seen it - was placed just one word "Eternity" in Arthur Stace's copperplate writing. No words are adequate to describe but somehow the view from eternity for Rev John G Ridley and Arthur Stace must have been marvelous. Who could have imagined? "Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen " Ephesians 3:20-21
