Description
Late autumn dusk in the Rila Mountain of Bulgaria. Low lying cloudiness covers the valley of Bistritsa River below 1900 m (5700 feet) altitude.
Rila Mountain is the highest in SE Europe, reaching altitude of 2925 m above sea level. It is home to many endemic plants, among which Primula deorum (God's Primrose) is the most popular. The mountain's name in Thracian is thought to be associated with the abundance of water (translating approx. as "the water-rich mountain"). Even though there are no real glaciers in the mountain nowadays, its current relief was shaped during the ice periods. It is an attractive hiking, cultural, and outdoor activity destination.
