Description
"Historic Downsville Wooden Covered Bridge, New York" by Catherine Sherman.
The historic Downsville, New York, Bridge is reflected in the tranquil waters of the East Branch of the Delaware River.
Downsville Bridge is a wooden covered bridge in the hamlet of Downsville in Delaware County, New York. Designed by Scottish immigrant Robert Murray, the bridge was built in 1854, and is a single span, timber and plan framed bridge. The bridge measures 174 feet (53 meters) long and 19 feet (5.8 meters) wide. Downsville Bridge is currently the longest historic covered bridge New York State after the 232-foot (71 meters) Blenheim Bridge in Schoharie County was destroyed during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
