Description
The District of Columbia World War I Memorial honors the 26,000 residents of Washington, D.C. who served in the first world war. Inside the domed, circular temple are inscribed the names of 499 citizens who lost their lives in combat, and preserved in a cornerstone of the memorial is a list of the 26,000 residents who served in the war. The District's World War I memorial was dedicated on Armistice Day, 1931, and stands on the National Mall southeast of the Lincoln Memorial.
