Description
Crazy From the Heat is a four-cut EP vinyl album released in January 1985 by American singer/vocalist David Lee Roth by Warner Brothers Records (1-25222). It was his debut solo recording and released while he was still lead singer for Van Halen, though he parted ways with the bad several weeks later to launch his solo career.
The EP consists entirely of cover versions of songs decidedly a departure of Roth's previous style with Van Halen. “Easy Street” was originally recorded by the Edgar Winter Group, “Coconut Grove”originally by the Lovin' Spoonful, “California Girls” originally by the Beach Boys and the medley “Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody” is based on Louis Prima's 1956 medley combining two pre-WWII songs. “California Girls” peaked at #3 on the Bill Board Hot 100 in 1985 and the EP is certified Platinum by the Record Industry Association of America.
The cover photo was shot in the Seychelle Islands and is also used for Roth's 1997 autobiography, Crazy From the Heat.
