The fourth studio album released by Bruce Springsteen on 2 June 1978 by Columbia Records (JC35318). The album marked t of the he end of a three-year gap between albums brought on by contractual obligation and legal battles with former manager Mike Appel.
The album was very well received by music critics and fans that praised the maturity of the themes and lyrics. It remains the most highly regarded records by both. In 2003 Rolling Stone ranked it No. 151 on their list of greatest albums of all time
