Description
One morning, my husband came in from hunting and said he saw an owl outback. My husband described an area out back that was about 3/4 of a mile from my home. I grabbed my camera, threw on some boots and walk/jogged that 3/4's of a mile - JUST IN CASE - that owl was still there. Low-and-behold, there he was, still chilling where my husband had seen him about fifteen/twenty minutes prior. God IS GOOD! I had wanted to get a photograph of an owl for DECADES!
The Barred Owl is the only Maine owl with dark brown eyes, a thicker appearing neck, and no ear-tufts. The neck and back are barred crosswise; the belly is barred lengthwise. It prefers swamps adjacent to wet, open meadows for foraging. The barred owl is a medium large owl with brown eyes and no ear-tufts.
he barred owl (Strix varia), also known as northern barred owl or hoot owl, is a true owl native to eastern North America. Adults are large, and are brown to grey with barring on the chest.[2] Barred owls have expanded their range to the west coast of the United States and Canada, where they are considered invasive. Mature forests are their preferred habitat, but they are also found in open woodland areas. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, but they are also known to prey upon other small animals such as birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
The Barred Owl is the only true owl of the eastern United States which has brown eyes; all others have yellow eyes. The upper parts are mottled gray-brown. The underparts are light with markings; the chest is barred horizontally while the belly is streaked vertically (hence its name "barred owl"). The legs and feet are covered in feathers up to the talons. The head is round and lacks ear tufts.

Glad you got back in time – it's a great shot. Looks like he also may have a headache, or he's too pooped to hoot.
