Description
In this photograph is the Old Republic Building which was originally called the Bell Building and was constructed in 1925 by the founder of Bell & Zoller Coal Co. In 1956 Bell & Zoller Coal Co sold the building to Old Republic and in the following year merged with Zeigler Coal. Surprisingly, this classic revival building wasn’t granted landmark status until 2010 and recently they spent 12 million dollars for renovation to the exterior and mechanicals. This was also the first high-rise in the area built east of Michigan Avenue.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
