Overlook from the South Rim of the impressive Canyon de Chelly, near Chinle, in Arizona. In the foreground can be seen Spider Rock. This massive canyon is owned by the Navajo Nation and continues to be used extensively for farming, grazing and of course tourism, though getting access to the valley floor is only via permitted tours. The rock formations are stunning, and seeing them in the rain just seemed to emphasise their structure. Here and there, impressive ruins can be seen cradled into overhangs, caves and alcoves, built by the ancient Puebloan people hundreds of years ago. The reddish tint to the rocks contrasts nicely with the greenery of the fields and trees of the valley floor.
