Description
"Cactus Wren Feeding Time" by Patti Deters. Here we see a parent (probably female) Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus) feeding her juvenile baby. These small desert songbirds are mostly insectivores (carnivores), although they will sometimes eat seeds and fruits. They also sip nectar from cactus blossoms and enjoy the insects trapped within, adding much appreciated moisture to their diet. Parents feed young with insects, sometimes removing the wings or legs to fit down small throats.
