Description
The Fred Eberhardt Mansion stands as kind of a gateway to Kenmore, N.Y. Fred's brother, Louis Phillip Adolph Eberhardt, was the founder of Kenmore and built twin homes for himself and his brother. This was the brother's mansion. The twin mansion was lost some years ago but happily we still have this one, which is owned by Hunt Real Estate and functions as an office building.
This splendid turreted affair is built from Medina sandstone in 1894, designed by Cyrus Porter. Porter also designed the Karpeles Manuscript Museum, which I also sketched, recently. If you look at this picture closely you will see a figure walking up the steps. I had in mind my beautiful niece Rose, who recently began her first "real" job, working in this mansion as a lawyer's assistant. I imagined Rose walking up the steps on her first day, ready to take on her new challenges. The slight figure entering the giant house makes me think of a children's book.
