Photographic artwork by Cindy Treger. Photographed near Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA. This beautiful male brown-headed cowbird (Molothrus ater) landed on a branch showing off his glossy black coloring and his brown head, for which he is named. Cowbirds lay their eggs in nests of over 200 species of birds. Most incubate and raise the young, but some birds reject cowbird eggs.
