Description
Musselburgh’s Fisherrow Harbour in East Lothian is situated just outside Edinburgh to the east and is a beautiful spot to sit, chill and take in the scenery which looks out over the Firth of Forth.
There has been fishing at fisherrow and musselburgh since the roman times and the present harbour sits close to the site of the old Roman Harbour at the mouth of the River Esk.
My Grandfather was a fisherman from fisherrow in the early 20th century.
During his time, in 1939, the Firth of Forth became a strategic area for the Royal Navy and the Royal Airforce and fishing activities were curtailed at fisherrow. Fishermen's Associations and politicians protested against this, and some of the restrictions were lifted. But despite this, many fishermen were called up, and the Navy commandeered some of the boats for war service.
My grandfather fished throughout and was also involved in various rescues.
I took a wander down and took some photos of how the harbour looks today, you can smell the fresh fish as you walk past Clark’s Seafood.
Fisherrow is part of Musselburgh and the town is known as the honest toun. I recommend a google of this beautiful town which has a lot of interesting places and attractions, i recommend a visit.
Thanks for looking, enjoy.
