"Blue Heron Minimal - Stretchy Neck" by Patti Deters. This drawing of a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) shows him stretching his neck to increase his height enough to get a better view of his surroundings. These coastal water birds can stretch their necks up to three times its normal length! allowing them to spot and strike at prey from a distance. Great Blue herons, or GBH for short, are the largest of the herons in North America. Their blue gray coloring of the feathers helps these water birds blend into their coastal and wetland surroundings, though the bright orange beak and yellow eye do stand out. This image is inspired from one of my own photographs and is hand drawn with a texture canvas as the background.
