Description
My sister is an avid gardener, so I avail myself of her beautiful flowers a few times a year. Then I have to call her to get the names! This is a black tulip. (I would have said a peony or ranunculus). While named a black tulip, it really is a deep burgundy color. I added a textured background.
Tulip blooms always seem a sure sign that Spring has finally landed. The tulip is a perennial that grows from bulbs. They can grow as high as 28 inches.
Commercial cultivation actually started in the Ottoman Empire. In Persia, to give a red tulip was to declare your love. The black center of the flower represented the lover's heart burned to a coal by passion.

Nature, animals, beauty have been a source of nourishment throughout my life. Photography allows me to capture, interpret, and share that world of wonder I see about me, and sometimes use what I capture as an inspiration to create something new, by incorporating other exposures, textures or brushwork.
I currently reside in Oregon, an environment rich in nature's graces. I have lived in California and New York, too, and everywhere there is a world of beauty around us, if we care to take the time and look for it.
