In a wilderness realm where a gentle river carves its way through an ancient forest lined valley, a solitary grizzly bear sits on a boulder in the water enjoying a bright afternoon. The great animal gazes back at you, its thick coat a tapestry of earthen browns, with strands of darkness framing the wise face and lighter hues catching the gentle kiss of the sun. The bear looks a bit embarrassed to see you...perhaps he just had a salmon get away.
From the artist, for this work, I was looking to create an almost humorous work with the bear looking a bit surprised to find you watching him lounge by the river. I actually got the idea when I walked up on one of my cats who was happily gnawing on a shoelace of one of my shoes and didn't notice me approach. When he finally did see me, he gave me a similar just-got-caught expression.
The original is a 18"x24" work on 600 grit archival sanded paper created using the highest quality oil pastels from Sennelier as well as Faber Castell Polychromos oil based colored pencils. It is sealed with seven coats of Sennelier's fixative for oil pastels.
