This Tricolored Heron is standing on a stump looking over a small lake. The sun is on the other side of the heron therefore it is backlit. That is what causes the halo effect you see on the beak, the neck and the back of this magnificent bird. Luckily there is enough light reflected off the water to light up the front side of the bird.
