Description

Spectacular fall colors adorn a stately tree in Vacaville, California in this photo taken early December 2015.

The kaleidoscope of colors are truly magnificent when they appear -- greens transitioning to yellow, orange, red, crimson and even a touch of purple. If you zoom in using the full resolution green box, you will notice some of the hundreds of unique berries borne by this majestic tree.

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California, I do not see fall color very often among the vast majority of evergreens, so for me it is indeed a treat to see autumn color like this.

During science class in elementary school, I studied leaf chromatography which taught how deciduous trees prepare for winter by storing food in their roots. The green chlorophyll in the leaves recede, revealing brilliant yellow, orange and red hues that were there all along, waiting in turn to display their beauty.

So it is with God's lessons revealed in nature:: Though we cannot control the seasons of life, we can, like Joseph in Genesis, successfully prepare for the future when we listen and obey God's voice. Circumstantial set-backs are merely set-ups for the promotion God has in store in His perfect timing. All we need to do is listen for, trust and obey His still, small but powerful voice of reason and wisdom.
