Description
Albert Schweitzer won the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his philosophy of "Reverence for Life.� He was born in the province of Alsace-Lorraine and became a brilliant organist and noted expert on composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Schweitzer was also a theologian and philosopher. In his twenties he chose to study medicine with the intent of becoming a medical missionary. Defying the wishes of friends and family, he moved to Africa and would eventually establish the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambarene, Gabon.
