Description
The large golden building with a swath of black coming down one side of it is the National Museum of African-American History and Culture (NMAAHC). It opened on September 24, 2016 in a ceremony led by President Barack Obama, with former Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton present. NMAAHC is a Smithsonian Institution museum that tells the African-American experience -- its history and culture -- beginning in the early days of slavery to modern-day America. It is located near the Washington Monument on a corner of the national mall at 15th Street and Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC. As for that black swath coming down one side, it is the shadow of the Washington Monument which is just beyond the right border of the photograph (the curved path the people are on leads to).
