Description
USS Arizona Memorial, dedicated 20 May 1962, straddles the sunken remains of the Pennsylvania-class battleship. The Arizona exploded and sank during the December 7 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, killing 1,177 aboard.
Unable to salvage the Arizona, the sunken Navy battleship remained in Pearl Harbor as a memorial to both those lost on the ship and all lost in the surprise attack. A solemn point of remembrance for the thousands of visitors who arrive daily to pay their respect to the valiant United States military personnel who gave all in defending freedom.
