Please use the URL for your image postings, rather than the copy and paste code. Posting the photo itself, rather than a link will make it difficult for people who don't have high speed internet, as well it might cause people to skip over your post without promoting.

If you want others to promote your work, you should do the same for them. We "do unto others." Those of us who take a full part in promoting ourselves and others try to do so for a 24 hour period or longer if possible. That includes opening the Big Skip and promoting the images in there too.

Only 1 image is allowed within a 24 hour period, both in this discussion and in the group. Only 1 sales announcement is allowed within a 24 hour period in this discussion.

There is NO contest vote solicitation allowed on the discussion boards.

If you are posting nudes, or other questionable images, please post a warning notice with your link. There are children here, as well as adults who choose not to look at that type of image.
Please do not post links from your pixels.com account or any other FAA mirror site. It tends to create problems for some people and most will skip those links.

ABSOLUTELY NO images of nudity, death, cruelty or violence of any kind on the main board, where you have no ability to post a warning.

Finally, JUST HAVE FUN!! This is an incredible group of people who will make you feel welcome from your first post!!

TO ALL NEWCOMERS: I realize that some of you are so new to not only the group, but to FAA, that I thought perhaps a little clarification is in order. I'm sure you've noticed that while we can't require anyone to vote/like anyone elses work, we do tend to treat people the way people treat others. But I also realized that you may not have a clue what we're talking about, so........... to "like" someone's work, you click on their blue link, which opens up that particular piece. In the upper right corner, you'll see a few little icons. One is a thumbs up, which is what you press to "like/vote" for that piece of art. All of us here press that whether we love the work or not. It's how we help each other to move up in the FAA search standings (even though FAA now says it doesn't count for very much, but that's now past history and it is what it is). That's all we ask of you. Should you choose to do so however, you can also click on the little heart (which is to add a work to your own "favorites" list), and you'll also find buttons for the various social media sites if the artist chooses to activate any or all of those buttons. These are the ways we promote each other. You may also choose to vote/like your own submissions. It's perfectly acceptable to do so.

Belinda ... Sending prayers for your Dad's continued improvement. Does he have a walker he could use when he gets up? That would provide a little support and maybe help prevent another fall.

Thanks Stuart, Jennifer, Terri, Marianne, Debbie, Terry, Helen, Bill, Peggy and Joan. They decided not to release him after all, and they are continuing to look for a rehab center that will take him. Helen, he normally uses a walker. He's 93 and was weaker than usual from the pneumonia and now that he's been in bed for about a week, his muscles just aren't holding him up, but he still keeps trying to get out of bed, even at the hospital.

Congratulations, Peggy!

(I had regular sales through September, then none until 2 weeks ago, and then three in two weeks. In the past, I generally find that between November and December, I'll make as many sales as I do during the entire rest of the year). Let's hope that this is a good holiday season for everyone!

Jerry, we can see St Mawes from here, it is directly opposite us. The castle there is the partner to Pendennis Castle our side of the river protecting Falmouth and Truro. They are a canon fire reach apart. It's a very short ferry ride away but, as you say, a slow drive.
Sorry for not commenting much the last few days, but it got really busy as some of you may have seen from my FB page. Flushing Christmas Market was a success, phew! The Christmas lights were turned on in the village tonight. Still not pre-pandemic style but a good outside turn out. As the local mag tog I was busy.
I shot a local derelict manor house 5 minutes up the road last week for the Mylor History archives, still hoping one day I can share those when Historic England give me the OK and I've been inundated with photo restoration for Christmas pressies. If only people would think ahead! Happy do do photo restorations and touch ups for all of you but please ask in the new year.
Cheers Joan, I'll give it a go. If anyone can pass the secret key to get through the door next time I lock myself out I'd be very grateful.
Thank you and goodnight from Mylor Bridge

Hi, all! First off, thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes -- I've been going through and reading all the commentary that I missed in last week's thread, and got big smiles from all the good wishes. :) The day went well for me -- had to work, but a friend came through my line at the store and wished me happy birthday, which was a treat. Later, as I was ringing up a young woman's groceries and chatting with her, she told me I was "a real hit of serotonin!" and that she would come back often to see me. :) Makes me glad I work there, you know?

Norma, I'm so glad you're back to playing! I've got to read some more -- I assume there's a report of how the concert went on Saturday evening? And I agree with your comment about feeling like we know everyone here -- isn't it great? :)

Kim, Joan, and Paul, how are the renovations going?

Terri, great assignment, photographing an old building! Are they going to let you show us your photos here? (And by the way, I saw it was you who started the birthday ball rolling -- thanks. :) I was wondering at first how everyone found out, then remembered you and I are friends on FB...)

Peggy, I'm so glad to hear that things are getting better for you in BC -- what a relief!

Johanna, -31degrees?? Way too cold!

Belinda, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he's feeling better soon!

Marianne, your husband sounds like mine -- I have a photo of him grilling out in the snow. I also have a photo of my daughter standing barefoot on our deck, on the only patch that didn't have snow, blowing soap bubbles when she was eight or nine. It's crazy!

Have I mentioned we have strong winds here in northern Oklahoma…ALL THE TIME? The city decided to put up the tallest cut Christmas tree in the world! Portions blew apart before the lights were ever added. Two nights ago the winds took out the upper 27 feet, lights and all leaving it standing at 117 feet tall. Thinking they won’t try this again next year. LOL

Lori Kingston

Debra, you'd think that whoever decided to get that "tallest cut tree" would know about those winds, wouldn't you? LOL

My family lived in Oklahoma City for a year when I was in 10th grade, so I got to experience Oklahoma winds. I had a foster sister same age as me, but very slim, and some days when we walked to school, I would have to put my hand on her back and push or she wouldn't make any forward progress!

Thanks for the welcome back. :) Could swear I saw someone else getting birthday wishes too, but can't find it now... (Judy, was that you?)

Can I rant a moment about contests here on FAA? Why do people enter contests without following the rules? Or worse, tell the person running the contest that it shouldn't have any rules? That makes absolutely no sense to me. Even the contests that are basically dumping grounds for images ("your ten best pictures") have rules -- ten images, your best. And when you have a contest that is "your ten best images" you end up with something like 3000 entries, and who's going wade through all of that to actually find good pictures to vote on?

Yes, my image today is for a contest, and no I'm not telling you which one because I'm not soliciting votes, just likes/faves and hopefully a few comments. :)

Thank you for letting me rant. :)

Lori, happy birthday, belated.

having a hard time keeping up, with the emails being all messed up....again.

Lori, you asked about our reno. I talked with the contractor yesterday. There are a couple of unrelated items that need to be completed and he (and I) want to wait until they are all in place. One of them is a special order item that they had to replace (a cracked cabinet door) and it isn't in yet. Another item is on order but is not a special order. So we are waiting on those things so that they can just come once and do everything that needs to be done.

we still have to get the drywall patched in the ceiling to hang one light fixture. We were in Lowe's the other day looking a ceiling fans and I think I saw the item that was described by I think Judy and Debra? It's called a ceiling medallion. All the ones there were round.

so that's the state of things here. nothing critical, just waiting.

Well, for my bathroom remodel, the owner finally stopped giving me change notices so it is now finished with the exception of the granite counter top which is being cut today and I should be able to install that and the sink this weekend which completes this task.

As far as the roof replacement goes....Ugh I found more defects and improper flashing so they were out yesterday to inspect it So now after the house is finished getting painted they are going to reflash and reshingle the two peaks on the front of the house, remove and replace the roof on the 3rd car garage and replace the vent on the garage roof they stepped on and damaged prior to installing it on the roof! I hope all this finally gets done correctly before the end of the year. I am getting tired of inspecting and pointing out defects to professionals that should know more than I do about their work. Just saying....

Did anyone see my daughter on the People's Choice Award Show last night?

Thanks all for the well wishes and prayers for my husband. He’s in the OR now. This procedure should keep him from having to take blood thinners for his A-fib.

Then the next hurdle is treating his Hashimoto Encephalopathy!
His dementia has gotten so much worse in the last couple of weeks. He is doing and saying of the wall things. So I’m hoping they can treat this! But it sounds like they’ll hold off for a couple of weeks to make sure this cardiac procedure is healing. Not sure I can handle him as he is for much longer.

https://fineartamerica.com/featured/eureka-springs-lens-art-photographpy-by-larry-trager.html

Hey there everyone. I have been absent for a few days.

Been busy with finalizing some family and infant sessions from November and getting the house decorated for Christmas. I am taking some time off from photo sessions for December to have some time for me and family. I might shoot a couple of basketball games and wrestling matches, but those are quick and easy and don't take as much time as the other sessions do. It has definitely been a busy year and I am thankful for that.

The photo attached is from my travels south this fall to Table Rock Lake and Eureka Springs. This building just caught my eye with the advertising painted on the side.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Marianne, thanks very much for the compliments! There are a lot of squirrels where I used to live and I encouraged them to hang out on my back deck by offering sunflower seeds. Yes, you could say I lured them! All the photographs actually happened unless there are two squirrels in a photo...in that case it's a composite of the same squirrel but it was actually doing what it was doing. We had some things on our back deck (like the cookie jar) that the squirrels interracted with naturally but then I started setting up things for them. All the chipmunk pictures were taken in my parents' back yard because we didn't have any chipmunks around.

Unfortunately we hardly have any squirrels around here where we now live. I miss them! They're very entertaining...

Debra, I can vouch for the wind there, I've been to OK several times. Even as an outsider, I'm amazed that someone actually thought that was a good idea!!

Judy, prayers for your husband and you.

We had to have two new toilets installed, after we finally got someone to show up. The first didn't bother, after putting us off a few times. The dishwasher is waiting for a solenoid-something and three times, the wrong part has come in, but the service guy assures us he will be by with the right part this afternoon. Now if we could just have someone young and dependable to rake/blow the leaves up so we could go over them with the mulching mower. Getting old just stinks sometimes.

I had a much easier time of ordering from the US, firewood to the UK as a Christmas gift for our daughter and SIL. It will be delivered promptly next Tuesday. We used this company last year, and they were great. It was an amazing amount of cut wood for the cost!

Judy so sorry to hear about your husband. As dementia gets worse it is often impossible to keep someone safe at home. Dementia is just so cruel to watch. So sorry Judy - it is very hard. I saw this with my grandmother and now my father. It's a fading away. I also find my father's behavior worsens in an unfamiliar setting such as a hospital and they gave him antipsychotic drugs which makes him more off the wall.

Off to hospital now - they are looking for a setting they can put him that will be able to deal with his foley catheter, his unsteadiness and now his dysphagia - which means that he is fed by an IV and anything he eats has been ending up in his lungs, which could have been the reason for his pneumonia.

I’m so sorry Judy. Dementia is so difficult as it progresses. I helped mom with Dad as long as it was possible…until the day he totally forgot how to walk. We spent a number of days in the floor with him while waiting on help to arrive. Finally came the time for the nursing home.

Thinking of you as well, Belinda, as you continue to help and be with your Dad through the struggles.

Good evening everyone. Running so late today because of the site issues. Things were wonky all day and half the evening from some kind of issue with Amazon servers where many businesses, including FAA, store stuff. Not quite sure of all the technicalities, but evidently it was a widespread problem across the internet. There was a thread about it in the FAA Forum ... my go-to place when problems arise on site. If it's a site-wide problem, someone always posts about it. Lots of good info in the Discussion Forum.

Judy and Belinda .. prayers being sent as you both deal with the health and aging of family members. So hard sometimes and never easy seeing them deteriorate. Hopefully, help can be found for both.

Dang, Debra. Someone didn't think that through. Lol! Bet they won't repeat it next year ... or maybe they will. We tend to have very short memories. :)

Paul, we were shocked too! We both did the renewals at the same time and i got mine online, hubs got stuck with the 'interview' such as it was. I don't know why there were no openings in DFW, if it was something wrong with the website or if truly was booked for over a year ahead. As you might imagine, there is little/no recourse, no telphone number to call to ask any questions. They asked him his name and address, whether he had been to canada or mexico in the past 5 years (no). Redid fingerprints. that was it. I was going to go get a coffee and barely made it to the coffee shop before he texted me he was done!

Good afternoon all. I was gone (not by my choice) since right after I posted the other day. There was a company installing fiber optic internet for someone in our neighborhood and they cut through our internet line. GRRRRRRR!!!!! This is the second time the same company has done this to our internet line. Double GRRRRRR!!!!

Just got our service back a couple of hours ago, so now I can catch up on all of the things I needed to do on line for the last couple of days. I could do some things from my phone but I don't like to, mainly because I don't like straining my eyes just to see stuff.

You don't realize how much you rely on the internet until it is gone. But, this is also why I don't want a "smart" home where everything is run through the internet. And then add to it, my phone died on me too, so I had to get a new phone. Murphy's law I guess.

Just looking through all of the comments, it looks like there is a lot of health issues going on for some people / families. Prayers to all and for guidance on next steps to take / healing.

Have a good evening all.

So...yesterday at Mom's I was reading the front page of her newspaper about none other than the giant Christmas tree. There was a picture of a huge crane and workers putting the top portion, that broke in the wind, back in place with nuts and bolts and such. It stated about 5 foot, where it broke, was too extensively damaged and had to be cut from that portion. But in trying to keep it at 141 feet tall, wait for it, they added a 5 foot star to the top!!! But Thursday night when they once again turned on the lights only the star worked!! LOL Last night, after going out for dinner, I suggested we drive on to downtown and see this tree at night. Well, the bottom 117 feet and the 5 foot star were all lit but that section that broke and they put back in place....no lights working at all. But it did still stand through yesterday's south winds of 35-50 mph. Now to see if it survives today's winds which once again are to be up to 50mph but from the north! (Helen, they are NOT learning!!)
