Beauty of Egrets

I've started this gallery featuring these majestic winged beauties. Included are both the great egret (Ardea alba) and its smaller cousin, the snowy egret (Egretta thula). Both species of birds were hunted to the brink of extinction during the 19th century for their breeding plumage to satisfy fashion demand. Thanks to conservation efforts beginning in the early 20th century, these majestic birds have made a rebound, and once again they can be enjoyed and conserved in many areas of the world for generations to come.
