I was visiting one of my favorite spots on Earth, Mackinaw Island MI. As I was biking around the island, I noticed all these rocks that were stacked on the shores of both Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Hmmmmmmm I thought, what are those. They are sorta cool!
So OF COURSE I stopped and took 1,000's of photos of all these little rock statues.

When I got home I did some research this is what I found. I found a TON of info but I liked this the best.

Zen stones are placed in Zen gardens to represent various elements of life and that is still holding true to this day as it is still widely enjoyed as such. Stones are natural and reflect the balance between man-made structures and nature and this too, is still implied for usage. Zen stones represent what ever you want, in the long run, but are used in Zen primarily for weighting and anchoring, gracefully and naturally according with the physics of material earth.

Stone has many meanings in and of itself; stability, heavy weight, usable material, solid, and gives way to sculptures, statues and art quite easily upon the eye. I once created a vegetable garden and used all flat smooth round stones to make the plot labels with "tomoato", "broccoli", "onion" etc as well as in my flower garden, laying them in with the names painted on such as "peace", "dream", "serene". etc. The idea was to weight these concepts naturally into my flower garden as ambience and reminders to open to the power of flowers and gardens and how they can make you feel naturally. In the vegetable garden, the concept was to weight the presence of these plants into the earth and my own consciousness to forward their potency and alignment to my intention." (from Zen Dope Blog)

More about the photograph. I made this photo look like an oil painting. Talk about Zen. I am VERY relaxed and in the zone when I am creating!
