Description
This is a portion of a field meadow nearby me which I go hiking through in Spring and Summer to capture flowers and insects in photographs. This area has a lot of wild grasses, coreopsis flowers and sprinkling of other wild flowers in it. Besides the Coreopsis, I see Indian Blanket, White Yarrow and Texas Thistle growing here. I love the bursts of yellow among the grasses.
Coreopsis are in the Asteraceae family of flowers and are also called Tickseed.
Indian Blanket flowers (Gaillardia pulchella) are also known as Fire Wheel flowers. It is the state flower of Oklahoma but you see a lot of these in my part of north Texas as well. It grows in meadows and along the highways with other wildflowers.
White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) are in the Asteraceae family of flowers and are often called Common Yarrow. It is a perennial flower and have flat clusters of tiny flowers at the top of their stems.
Texas Thistle (C. texanum) is one of at least ten types of thistle found in Texas. It is drought tolerant and grows in early summer. It is a good source of nectar for pollinator insects.
