Description
I have begun a new series of Magnolias done in watercolors. They are my favorite flowers and the landscape they provide is colorful and always different according to impressions. The blues, reds and golds blend well and contrast with the rust and green leaves, textured with veins and the black background provides a striking scenic painting. These botanical watercolors are special and are usually sold quickly. I never tire of painting the creamy white flowers and even before they begin to bloom, I can smell the sweet southern fragrance.
This signed painting is on cold-pressed Arches paper and unframed.

Congrats! Here in Sweden magnolias are not common, but I love them I see, and today I bought a magnolia for a friend who helped me taking my puppy to hospital twice, and I hope it will bring her much beauty, planted in a warm pace in her garden.

Magnolias hold a special place in my heart since I'm from the South here in America and they're truly a symbol of the old South. but, more than that, with their glossy green leaves, rust underneath and those huge, fragrant white flowers, full of interesting contrasts, pollen, colors, they represent summer and summer vacations, sitting on the porch, drinking iced tea in a rocking chair while the huge Magnolia trees provide a gentle shade with the wafting of sweet fragrance on a hot humid day. They make memories and your gift was truly a gift which will bring joy and make new fond memories for your friend who will always bring your face to mind when she sees it and marvels over its natural beauty!

Thank you, Bob. I have to say, Southern Hospitality is also my favorite and I painted it so quickly, it had a mind of its own. I love it when that happens, don't you? It's so great when you don't have to sit there and think, hmmm how am I going to do this one but, instead, your hand just picks the colors and blends them just so and you just sit back in awe.

There's no sealer, Marsha. That paper is 300 weight from the Arches block cold-pressed. That's why it's so much thicker. No, just teasing about rolling it. lol

Lil,I will never tire at staring at this,so calm. You gave me a heart attack on joking about rolling it into a tube. What do I seal mine with.Is that 140 or 300 or sealer making it so hard.It is great.Brown frame,inside 1/2 in Bronze. Tried 2 Matts and Off White and a Bronzish.Bronze looks rich. I like the technical application of watercolor to this one, very nice magnolia... and the framing of image in the composition is impactful. This catches your eye, when coming to your gallery of many images.
