Description
Ospreys are permanent residents at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in northwest Florida, outside of Tallahassee, on the Gulf of Mexico. While it is not unusual to see them in the preserve, and they have multiple nests scattered throughout the grounds, this fella was closer to Lighthouse Road than usual and perched much lower than they usually are. He was practically posing for a photo shoot as he stood atop a piece of weathered wood in the marshes close to the main road. He looked straight at me, and then quizzically moved his head from side to side, as if trying to figure out who or what I was. He was photographed in September, 2019.
